ROMAN PECH
THE CREATOR OF THE DOCUMENTARY
After years spent in front of the camera as a television presenter and editor of crime news, he decided to move behind the camera — toward a slower and more profound form of storytelling. The film was created over the course of three years, mostly in solitude, within Iceland’s harsh and unforgiving landscape, which demanded not only physical endurance, but also the ability to remain silent, patient, and fully present.
Roman travelled nearly 15,000 kilometres across Iceland, often returning to the same locations repeatedly because of changing weather conditions. He filmed in freezing temperatures, on mountain peaks, and across vast volcanic plains. Island in the North is his personal cinematic reflection on nature, light, patience, and the kind of beauty that reveals itself only to those willing to truly face it.
The narration for the film was recorded by actor and voice artist Pavel Soukup, whose distinctive velvet baritone gives Island in the North its unique atmosphere and emotional depth.
